City and county officials gathered yesterday for an open house event at Jessie Banks Homes in Tchula, Mississippi. The recently completed community is a new construction component of MS Region VI RAD, a 9-site Tax Exempt Bond Development that leveraged public and private funds. Developed through a partnership between the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority VI (MRHA6) and Knight Development, this community represents $5,413,240 of the $57,633,930 total investment, which enhanced affordable housing opportunities across central MS. Celebrants toured the community of 22 affordable units with fourteen 3-BR and eight 4-BR units. Each unit features green building technologies and is finished with fully equipped kitchens, spacious floor plans, exterior security, 24-hour emergency maintenance, washer/dryer connections, and dishwashers. The family-friendly subdivision is smoke-free and accented by a playground. The planning and development of the neighborhood spanned several city administrations. Current Mayor Ann Polk was joined by Former Mayors General Vann and Zula Patterson, who each played an integral role in bringing the project to fruition.
